Even though that art changes with time some artworks won’t be forgotten. For our English project we have chosen “Ship with butterfly sails” by Salvador Dali, because we found this painting really creative.  It was made on 1937 with oil painting. The colors that highlight the most are: green, blue and orange. We believe that the colors of the ship represent hope, because of how it contrasts with the background. We find blue as a way of peace and green (from the ocean) as way steadiness within the ship.  And at last you can see the shore, which is in contrast with everything around.

We admire a lot of art principals at Dali’s painting that are use correctly. First we see rhythm in the clouds that may seem that are moving, also we see rhythm in the water and butterflies. We believe that Dali was trying to emphasis the ship, because of the colors he used and because of the way he highlights it. It may seem like a lot of variety, because of all the different colors, shapes and objects he decides to use on his painting. At the end, all of this is united because everything belongs and it looks stable.

There might be a lot of interpretations for just one painting, in this one we believe is peace. We think that the artist was trying to represent freedom and hope. In the artwork we see butterflies instead of sails, which we believe represent hope for people that are waiting in the shore. They seem excited because the ship is arriving with butterflies that might represent faith for them.  Dali paints people in contrast with everything else, they are in black and compared to the painting that’s the roughest color it’s used. So the colors in the flags, ship and butterflies set off with the jersey and people in it.
Without doubt, art is a way we can express ourselves and represent what we believe. Dali was a really admirable surrealist artist that influenced a lot on his golden years.  “Ship with butterfly sails” is one of his most beautiful artworks and one which we found very inspirational. These were just some of our ideas we believe about Dali’s painting.
